Why am I, Mike McFadyen, an apparently sensible person, running for the Idaho legislature in 2018???
I'd like to have your vote. I plan to earn it through smart and scrupulous work as your representative in the Idaho legislature. Here's what you can expect from me as a legislator once I'm elected.
I'm a committed conservative. I believe that traditional values about work and humility and personal responsibility and generosity need to be expressed and embodied in local and state government. Those values, as I see it, are embedded in the culture and people and air and dirt of Idaho. I want to do what I can to make sure that those values survive and get lively expression here in rural Idaho.
Frequently Asked McFadyen Questions:
What do you do for a living? "Well, I'm retired, sort of. I've had a long non-stop career as a large-project construction manager, control/communications engineer/fabricator, and tech entrepreneur. Now that I don't work any more, I'm now working all the time: doing projects for the Camas County schools, doing social work for our horses, farming, running for the legislature, working on tech projects for the Sheriff's Office and the search and rescue organization, substitute teaching, building lighting for the library, etc."
Are you an Idaho native? "No, we moved here from California about 6 years ago when we decided that I should retire. Best move we ever made. We studied it pretty closely, and figured that south central Idaho would be the place to go. We were right. I hope this doesn't offend anybody too much, but I think that my background as a former Californian has been a terrific education for me in what we don't want to see happen here."
What's at the top of your list for legislative work? Education funding and encouraging good, responsible school management. Road and bridge repair.
Mike McFadyen: "When we moved to central Idaho, it wasn't by accident. I love what I found here. I want it to thrive. I want my home town and my home area in Idaho to continue being a place that celebrates liberty, and responsibility, and generosity, and people helping each other. That's why I'm running for the Idaho legislature."
